A Closet of Many Colors

Hello there, thrift hunters! I hope this month has treated you well. For me it’s been quite a fun one. I reunited with old friends from high school and also went to a fun fair. On my recent thrift adventure at Goodwill I only found one item, but I love it!

shirt on hanger

It’s a multicolored top that was just $4.98 at Goodwill. The top is by the brand Alfani, which I’ve seen at Macys for around $21 to $60 – so I saved tons! Score! What makes me love this top so much is the versality of how it can be styled; it can be styled – with jeans or regular dress pants and even skirts.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts before, I’ve embarked on keeping a minimalist closet, so forgive that you’ve seen this Tory Burch shoe many times in previous blogs – also from Goodwill! But I thought to pair them with the top and jeans, and they really fit the style I was going for!

Here I styled the top with some dressier slacks and I love this look also! Lately my style has been leaning subtly toward androgynous fashion, but we’ll see how long it’ll last. :)

This versatile top, saving lots of money on my minimalist wardrobe, and CAMELS make me happy! See you next time!

Ready for Adventure

Hello there my thrift hunters! I’m back again with another find for this month! On my latest trip to Goodwill I found a whole outfit – a dress, sandals and a purse! Although summer isn’t officially here yet, the outfit gives me those summer vacation vibes. The fist find is this simple wrap dress from White House Black Market!

dress with tag on

It was just $12.98 at Goodwill! The olive green color reminds me of military clothes, and I don’t mind that at all! Also, did I mention it has pockets? Yup it does. What more could I ask for? Absolutely nothing. I’m glad I got to snatch it from the rack. Next I found these cute print sandals!

sandals with price

I’ve never seen sandals designed like this. At first I thought the one-toed style would be uncomfortable but surprisingly, they are as comfortable as can be and they feel nice and secure when wrapped around the leg. These brand new sandals were just $7.96 at Goodwill! Score!

The last item was thrifted two years ago. It’s this beaded shell bag. It was just $5.99 at Goodwill. Most beaded bags I’ve seen online is priced at $8.99- $300. I’m glad I’ve held on to this purse for this while!

Put it all together and what have you got?

A cool and stylish outfit, that’s what! All for under $30!!!

Until next time – PEACE OUT! Which reminds me…don’t forget to register for the Hippie Dash for Peace, Love & Goodwill! It’s the grooviest race in Tampa Bay!

Hippie Dash Brings Peace, Love & Goodwill to the Safety Harbor Waterfront May 15!

In 1969, Woodstock was an iconic cultural event billed as 3 Days of Peace & Music. Goodwill Industries-Suncoast and USI will bring back some of that groovy feeling in the form of the Hippie Dash for Peace, Love & Goodwill on Saturday, May 15 in Safety Harbor. The event includes a 10K and a 5K run, a Flower Child Fun Run for little hippies, and a laid-back one-mile Walk, Woof & Roll for walkers, dogs and strollers. The 5th annual Hippie Dash is expected to bring more than 1,000 hippies to the Safety Harbor waterfront.

The groove begins before 7 a.m. at the Safety Harbor Marina, 110 Veterans Memorial Lane, with tunes from the ‘60s and yoga on the beach. Runners are encouraged to wear their most far out duds for a chance to win Best Dressed Grown-Up Hippie and Best Dressed Flower Child awards. Participants in the Walk, Woof & Roll can dress up their dogs for a chance at a pooch prize too! After the race, participants can hang out at the Safety Harbor waterfront, enjoy free munchies and beer, and check out dozens of vintage VWs.

High-achieving hippies will be stoked to know the 10K and 5K runs are chip-timed events on certified courses. All participants will receive a super-cool medal and a fab T-shirt and swag. Award medals will be given to the first-, second-, and third-place finishers in each age group of the 10K and 5K. If runners can only be there in spirit, there’s a Run from Home option.

Come together right now! For additional information and to register, visit https://runsignup.com/Race/FL/SafetyHarbor/HippieDash

Groovy businesses in the community are sponsoring this year’s event. USI is the presenting sponsor. Other major sponsors include Publix Super Markets Charities, Hawkins Construction, Inc., RapidScale, Tampa Bay Times, Doubletake Marketing & PR, and Mix 100.7.

Proceeds benefit Goodwill’s programs for people with employment challenges. Can you dig it?

Skipping into Spring

Happy spring, lovely thrift hunters! It’s been a while I’ve showed you any thrifted items. Just a quick update on me – I’m still successfully maintaining my minimalist  closet, and I’m also taking a few cinematography classes!

Now let’s get into my thrifted items from Goodwill this month. I found them at the Goodwill Superstore in Trinity. I always love going there – it never disappoints. I always find great gems there, like this beautiful color-blocked magenta dress.

dress on rack

What perfect colors to celebrate spring season! the dress came with a braided belt, which I think adds more fun and character. I’m not always confident wearing thin strapped dresses, but the cool spring breezes made me forget about the straps. The dress was brand new with tags still on and was just $9.98 at Goodwill! Now for the shoes…

heels showing price

I found these super cute round toe heels by Ralph Lauren for half the price- it was Orange Week, and all orange tags were half price ( hello discount)! A total steal at $4.98! I thought pairing the shoes with the dress would give it a more dressy look.

dress with heels

The other way I styled the dress was pairing it my all time favorite shoes I thrifted last year from Goodwill – Tory Burch sneakers! The dazzle of blue sparkle makes it more fun pairing them with the dress. So just with $15.00 we have a brand new dress and like-new shoes! You can’t beat that!

I hope this spring season brings you continued success, see you soon with more great finds from Goodwill!

Virtual Book Drive for Children’s Literacy Program Starts April 1

Online donations will supply books for children in need

For more than 20 years, Goodwill’s BookWorks program has given books to children who may not otherwise have them. BookWorks volunteers read to preschoolers, and then present each child with a book to take home. These are the first books many of the children have owned.

Since volunteers can’t go into classrooms to do readings during the pandemic, they’re doing interactive online readings with preschool classes, and teachers are giving children books that volunteers dropped off earlier.

A virtual book drive for the program starts April 1 and runs through April 30. People in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, Hernando, Marion, Sumter and Highlands counties are being asked to purchase needed books through an online wish list, or to make a donation to the BookWorks fund that will be used to purchase books from a wholesaler. Goodwill can purchase new storybooks for less than $1 each.

To donate books through the online wish list or to make a monetary gift to purchase books, just visit goodwill-suncoast.org/book-drive-2021

To volunteer for BookWorks, call 888-279-1988 and ask for BookWorks or email bookworks@goodwill-suncoast.com

WMNF 88.5 FM Community Radio, Q92 FM and US 102.3 FM in Ocala are sponsors of the book drive.

BookWorks volunteers presented books to more than 70,000 children during the last two years. The program is desperately in need of books to meet future needs.

Goodwill’s BookWorks program is designed to instill a love of books and reading in children to establish the foundation for later success. Visit https://goodwill-suncoast.org/bookworks/ for more information about BookWorks.

Something Gorgeous is Coming!

Goodwill-Suncoast will carry on the Belle of the Ball legacy

Goodwill Industries-Suncoast, Inc. is thrilled to announce it is providing free prom, homecoming, and formal event gowns for young women who may not be able to afford them.

The announcement comes as Goodwill has acquired The Belle of the Ball Project, a nonprofit founded by Susan Schwartz to offer prom and homecoming dresses to high-school girls in Tampa Bay and surrounding counties. Belle of the Ball was founded in 2003.

When Schwartz approached retirement, she reached out to Goodwill as a possible nonprofit to continue the Belle of the Ball legacy. Goodwill was delighted to say “yes to the dress” and plans to not only provide free dresses, but also introduce young women to career development and pathways to a successful future.

To shop: While we are unable to hold all-day shopping events due to the pandemic, we are offering in-person shopping appointments at our temporary location at 16432 US Hwy 19 N., Clearwater. To make an appointment to shop for a dress, please visit our web page at goodwill-suncoast.org/belle-of-the-ball or email belle.oftheball@goodwill-suncoast.com

To donate: New or gently loved dresses for Belle of the Ball Project may be donated at Sun Country Cleaner locations. Sun Country Cleaners will clean donated dresses before forwarding them to Belle of the Ball. We are very grateful for their continued support!

Valentine Thrift Love

Valentine’s Day came and went without me blogging about my finds, but no matter! Everything I thrifted from Goodwill is still perfect for lots of different occasions, like a picnic date or a visit to a botanical garden!

Let’s start with these like-new shoes I found at Goodwill for $8.96.

shoes with price

I’m enamored by the lace design; the shoes look simple and delicate, but they’re also fun and comfortable. The lace fabric design adds a versatile touch — another way I would style the shoes is to pair them with a really nice suit for a relaxed business/casual look.

Then there’s the dress I found at Goodwill for $5.98.

dress on hanger

I love the simple vertical striped pattern. It gives the illusion that I’m taller than I actually am- which kind of boosted my self esteem a little! The back ties mean I could elevate the waist a bit, and I think that helped make it look more flattering.

back of dress

I hope you all have a lovely Valentine’s day!

modeling dress

If you spent the day alone like I did, know that you weren’t alone! Netflix was my Valentine!

sitting on bench

Here’s to celebrating thriting, no matter what day of the year it is! XOXO
