Back at work and loving it!
The past few years have been tough for Angel Nieves. He was a chef at an upscale restaurant when an oven exploded, slamming him into a wall and severely injuring his spine. His rehabilitation was successful and he now manages residual pain with medication. Still, he wasn't able to find an employer who would hire him, even though he has years of experience in the culinary field. "I was hungry to get back to work, but they were afraid I wasn't ready," recalls the St. Petersburg resident.
Angel's luck took a turn for the better after Goodwill arranged an interview for a position in food service at MacDill Air Force base in Tampa. Angel was hired through Goodwill's JobWorks program as a dining hall attendant, a position that allows him to help with food prep.
"Thank God! I'm using my skills again. I'm using my brain again. I'm using my hands again," says a grateful Angel. |
